From its foundation 460 years ago, Highgate School remains rooted in its London community centuries later and is widely considered to be one of the top co-educational schools in the country.
Highgate is set between Hampstead and Muswell Hill in North London, with the boundary between Haringey and Camden boroughs. The historic village has a distinctive identity, and the area is surrounded by the green spaces of Hampstead Heath, Waterlow Park and ancient woodland.
Pupils and staff come in from the local areas to study and work here, including Camden, Islington, Hampstead, Muswell Hill, Tottenham and further afield.
Highgate School is located within a short journey to the centre of the city and has several public transport links to the school, including buses, and the Northern line on the London Underground stops at Highgate and Archway. We also offer a paid school bus service for Junior and Senior School pupils servicing local areas.
As part of our efforts to be a sustainable school, we encourage staff, pupils, parents/carers and visitors to use public transport as much as possible to help reduce congestion and air pollution in the local area.

Our Senior School combines flagship historic buildings in the centre of Highgate village, with modern extensions that facilitate learning across all subjects – from a drama studio to music recital rooms, science laboratories to ICT suites. The extensive Sir Martin Gilbert Library is a valuable resource for studying and events. Sixth Form students have lessons in Dyne House on Southwood Lane, and have their own common rooms for socialising between classes.

The Junior School re-opened a new building in 2016, with a light-filled modern interior. The central atrium is a hub of activity with classrooms branching out for each year group. There’s a large hall with retractable seating, art and DTE studios, music and drama rooms, science labs, and a well-stocked library.

Our Pre-Prep is in a welcoming and secure building with colourful classrooms, plenty of outdoor play areas, its own dining hall and library. Pupils benefit from lessons in the Forest School and sports centre just across the road.

Highgate School is fortunate to be set within 23 acres of space in and around Highgate and Hampstead.
We have our own dedicated Mallinson Sports Centre on Bishopswood Road that includes a 25-metre swimming pool and extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities to accommodate sport and exercise lessons for all our pupils. Additional sports fields are located within a short distance.
The Mills Centre for Art and Design provides studio and gallery space, with a full range of facilities, from printmaking to sculpture, photography to filmmaking. The Design Technology and Engineering department is equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, an electro-pneumatic lab and automotive workshop.
