Our location

Our School is a short distance from central London and adjacent to Hampstead Heath.

Home to the famous Victorian cemetery (where Communist philosopher, Karl Marx, is buried alongside other notable people), Highgate Village has retained much of the surrounding green expanse. As well as the Heath, there is Waterlow Park, three ancient woods, and the eastern slopes, known locally as Highgate bowl.

Our School adds to this with our newly refurbished 25 metre indoor pool and extensive sports facilities.

“Blessed with playing fields and space beyond the dreams of other London schools”~ Good Schools Guide

Highgate School combines Victorian buildings (our Chapel, Central Hall classrooms and Sir Martin Gilbert Library) with modern facilities like our 200-seat auditorium and dedicated recital spaces, science laboratories, modern language classrooms, and high-tech ICT suites.

Our School’s Mills Centre for Art and Design provides studio and gallery space, with facilities for print-making, sculpture, pottery, and film-making, plus an IT suite for graphics and computer aided design, and a photographic darkroom. In addition, we have well-equipped design and engineering workshops (which host a suite of 3D printers and laser cutters), an electro-pneumatic lab and an automotive workshop.

Highgate Junior School opened in a new building in September 2016, which had been built to the highest specification with specialist facilities for computing, science, art, DTE, drama, and music, plus a retractable seat hall, outside play spaces and a small amphitheatre.

Transport links to Highgate Village and our School include bus routes and the Northern line of the London Underground, meaning central London is just twenty minutes away. We also offer a School bus service for Junior and Senior School pupils. We encourage staff, pupils, parents and visitors to use public transport as part of our efforts to be a sustainable school, thus reducing congestion and air pollution locally. Our good public transport links enable a smooth commute, with pupils and staff coming from a wide area to study and work at Highgate.

From the top of our Senior School in Highgate Village there are panoramic views across London.
