The arts

We inspire our pupils to study and to work creatively. This includes exciting co-curricular opportunities in music, drama, and art.

At Highgate, our range of musical activities encourages the beginner or furthers the talented musician.

Within the classroom, our Pre-Prep pupils have weekly music lessons with a specialist teacher and there are termly performance opportunities. From Year 1, pupils can take additional individual violin and cello lessons, with recorder lessons part of our curriculum from Year 2.

We have an annual concert for all our string players and a summer concert, during assembly, for any pupil learning an instrument outside of school.

‘Excellent teaching from the specialist drama and music teachers within the Pre-Prep who have really encouraged and inspired my children to participate fully.’

—Pre-Prep parent, 2018

Within the classroom, our Pre-Prep pupils have weekly drama lessons with a specialist teacher. All pupils participate in our annual Christmas show. During the Summer term, we have shows by year group, which are linked to the pupils’ choice of summer project.

Art is embedded in much of our project work each term, with lessons planned to ensure they are enjoyable and stimulating for all. We aim to inspire our Pre-Prep pupils with work by famous artists and by getting them to focus on specific pieces of arts.

Our pupils develop their abilities and confidence to work with a range of media, materials and techniques. With pupil artwork on display throughout our School, we help to create a bright and stimulating learning environment.
