11+ entry

In 2021, there will be places for approximately 80 pupils (boys and girls) to join around 100 Junior School pupils, moving into Year 7 in our Senior School.

Key dates for 11+ entry in 2021

Virtual Open Days: Saturday 26 September and Saturday 3 October 2020, in the morning. Now full.
Application deadline: Wednesday 11 November 2020 at 12noon. Applications are now closed.
Bursary award application deadline: Wednesday 11 November 2020 at 12noon. Applications are now closed.
Application fee: £150 (£300 if tests sat abroad)
11+ entrance examination: Monday 7 December 2020
11+ activities and interview dates: Monday 18 to Friday 22 January 2021
Offer letters sent: Mid-February 2021
Acceptance deadline: Early March 2021.

Open day
Saturday 26 September & Saturday 3 October 2020

Our main Saturday Open Day for families looking at 11+ 2021 entry and beyond will take place online on Saturday 26 September and Saturday 3 October 2020, in the morning. This will be a great opportunity to view all parts of the school site virtually and meet staff and pupils. These events are now full – please check back later in October for more details of parts of the Open Day you will be able to view retrospectively.

Please review our admissions policy, and complete and submit your application by this date, including your application fee. All applications are acknowledged and we will keep you advised on forthcoming events. Applications are now closed for 2021 entry. Applications for 2022 entry will open in Spring 2021.

Entrance exams
Monday 7 December 2020

Candidates sit tests at Highgate, with papers in English, Mathematics and reasoning. Our English paper reflects the National Curriculum KS2. Our Mathematics paper is designed so no specific syllabus or preparation is desirable or necessary.

We also request a confidential reference from your child’s head teacher.

Criteria for 11+ entry

Monday 18 – Friday 22 January 2020

A significant proportion of our candidates are invited back for activities and interviews. This consists of a group interview and taster lessons, and is a great opportunity to learn more about our School.

Successful candidates
Thursday 11 February 2021

Our offer letters are posted to successful candidates, with an email sent the following day.

Responses must be received by early March, with a deposit payable on accepting a place.

Highgate does make more offers than there are places available, so as swift a response as possible is advised.

Welcoming parents and pupils
June 2021

Moving to secondary school is a major change. Our Head of Lower School, Head of Year 7 and team of experienced tutors ensure this transition is as smooth as possible through a variety of events for new pupils and their families.

Team building
August 2021, before the start of term

All our Year 7 pupils visit an activity centre for a day of team-building and group activities, to assist with the formation of friendships and getting to know the staff.
