Sport at Highgate Junior School

We offer a range of sporting opportunities and facilities, plus a unique curriculum and approach to training for all our pupils.

At Highgate, we want pupils to enjoy taking part in physical activities for the many benefits it brings them. From the age of 4 to 18, pupils are taught sport and exercise by specialist coaches and teachers to ensure a high quality experience.

Our extensive sports facilities include the nearby Mallinson Sports Centre, with a 25-metre swimming pool, indoor courts, gym and dance studio, and outdoor spaces such as grass playing fields, all-weather pitches, tennis courts and cricket nets. The school is also located near the greenery of Hampstead Heath for walks and outdoor pursuits.

We couldn't have a better setting - it's more like the countryside and the coaches are fantastic. —Junior School parent

I really like playing football because it is so much fun and I'm on the team! —Y5 Pupil

Junior School sport and exercise lessons are  taught in co-educational groups, so pupils have the opportunity to enjoy all the sports on offer before choosing their preferred option as they move up our school.

The Head of Junior School SpEx, together with specialist coaches and teachers lead the delivery of our innovative curriculum, which is complemented by early-morning, lunch-time and after-school training and co-curricular clubs. Many pupils take part in local sports tournaments and competitions with other schools.
