Better Travel for Schools in Highgate
DELEGATES FROM SEVERAL LOCAL SCHOOLS WORK FOR CLEANER AIR, HEALTHIER PUPILS AND SAFER ROADS
Highgate School is delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative with local schools. The "Better Travel for Schools in Highgate" group will work in partnership towards achieving cleaner air, healthier pupils and safer roads.
In January, delegates from Highgate Primary School, St Michael’s C of E Primary School, Channing School, Whitehall Park School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School attended the first meeting hosted by Highgate School and apologies were received from St. Aloysius Catholic College and Brookfield Primary School.
On the agenda was a discussion about transport in the local area and how, through community cohesion, each school could campaign for improvements to public transport and increase the number of pupils travelling sustainably to and from school.
Delegates agreed that public transport networks serving the local area, particularly buses, could be improved. Each school will sign up to a campaign aiming to introduce increasingly regular, low-emission buses in an effort to increase public transport use amongst pupils and improve air quality across the local area.
Schools will take it in turn to host this group which will meet termly.
