Congratulations to the Highgate U13 Football team who have won the ISFA Cup for the first time ever, in a thrilling 7-5 win at Burton Albion Football Club!

As a co-ed team, as well as making school history by winning this competition, Highgate is the first to win the ISFA Cup with a boys and girls team. They showed great camaraderie and fighting spirit, creating memories, having fun and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.

Their coach Mr Kenmir enthused: “Tense doesn’t do justice to what the match was like. Highgate took an early 3-0 lead but conceded just before half-time, which rattled us. Aldenham School came out the blocks quickly after half-time, eventually taking the lead with 2 minutes to go (5-4). Highgate, finally, woke up in extra time. Three quick goals in the final throes of the match left Highgate with a nail-biting 7-5 win.”

I am so proud of each and every one of them,” he continued. “Since we started together as a team at the start of Year 7 they have all been outstanding, and all of them have their own, very special success stories.”

Paddy, who captained the team, added, “I thought it was an amazing performance from both teams, but we did so well after being 5-4 down to came back and win! The coaches, the fans and the players all deserve massive credit.”

Charlie, vice-captain, agreed, saying “it was a brilliant performance and result, we knew it was going to be a tough game but we dug deep and got the result.”

Araaniya concluded, saying “I am so proud to be part of this team. Whilst I’m delighted to be the first girl to win the ISFA cup, I hope I’m the first of many.”

Thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents who travelled to Burton Albion for the final to support the team.
