Last week, at Highgate, we were celebrating National Careers Week last week and, on Thursday, we held our annual Careers Fair in the Mallinson Sport Centre.
Over 300 pupils from Highgate, LAE Tottenham and our Chrysalis partner schools spoke to 65 representatives from a range of different fields of employment. Pupils spoke to delegates, from diverse sectors and industries, about their professions and their career pathways; in addition, various companies brought along current graduates, apprentices, and members of their recruitment teams to help the pupils to explore the myriad of options available to them.
The pupils were very full of praise for the event:
“It was great to find out more detail about what different careers involve from people with extensive knowledge and personal experience. I found it useful going to talk to individuals in careers that I didn’t know much about to see if those careers might be of interest to me or not.”
Another added, “There was a large range of people, from different professions, and all of them were very interesting and engaging. I also thought that it was useful to meet people from some of the companies who came as they offered work programmes as a possible alternative to university”.
Our thanks go to all of the delegates (many of whom were drawn from our OC and parent communities) who kindly supported the event and had high praise for the pupils they spoke to. One delegate shared: “I was impressed with the depth and sophistication of some of the questions and the level of pupils’ interest. I felt privileged to have met and helped, in an however small way, such engaging, focused and ambitious young people.” AJ
