Our latest OCBS event saw over 80 OCs and pupils from LAE Tottenham, Drayton Manor and Highgate enjoy a Q&A with Highgate alumni.

Held at Allen & Overy, courtesy of Andrew Ballheimer (EG 1975) and Daniel Shurman (WG 1978), our OCBS event “Inside the Law: an insight into the legal industry”, let Highgate alumni share experience and advice on various aspects of their careers in the legal industry.

Stuart Evans, Head of Alumni Relations, said: ‘Many thanks to our panellists: Philip Deja (EG 2002), Catherine Howell (KG 2009), Charlie Lexton (QG 1977), Jiries Saadeh (QG 1992), Daniel Shurman (WG 1978), and Helen Vickers (GH 2009), for an incredibly insightful evening. And many thanks to all OCs who attended, we hope you enjoyed networking and giving advice.’

One of our panellists, Helen Vickers (GH 2009), an Associate at DLA Piper, said: ‘I really enjoyed speaking to the pupils after the panel event. All of the pupils I spoke to (many from partner schools) were so engaged and asking all the right questions. I think it is so important to have informal opportunities like that because it can be daunting to ask questions in front of an entire audience (particularly at that age). I am also glad I got to speak because I feel the representation of law careers is largely by men. Things are changing (slowly) but it’s key that younger people realise that and are not put off. I also think everything Highgate is doing with its partner schools is great!

Our Development Office are looking forward to further OCBS events in the summer, which will focus on politics (at the House of Commons), and on DTE (at Hub East, Hackney Wick).
