Three Highgate pupils reached the HSBC/British Council UK Mandarin Speaking Competition finals, with Eliot (Year 11) named national winner in the intermediate level.

Highgate’s three finalists – Eliot, Laura (Year 12) and Daniel (Year 9) – first competed against more than 400 pupils in the regional heats. They then went forward to the finals, held at the British Museum, where Daniel was eventually awarded third place in the beginners level.

Now in its sixteenth year, HSBC/British Council UK Mandarin Speaking Competition involved 114 finals from more than 80 state and independent secondary schools across the UK.

Mandarin is one of five modern languages taught at Highgate and we are all very proud of Laura, Eliot and Daniel for their outstanding achievements in this important competition.  VG
