Six prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarships have been awarded to Highgate pupils – the most our Design, Technology and Engineering Department has ever received.
Mr Andy Thomson, Head of Highgate’s DTE Department, said: ‘Our Department has a strong heritage with the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship but this year, with six scholars in Year12, is a fantastic achievement.
‘Together with Arkwright and their mentors, we have the next two years to continue to develop and inspire these pupils, hopefully pointing them towards a career in the amazingly wide-reaching world of engineering, as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.’
Aiming to inspire and nurture school-age pupils to become future engineering leaders, the respected Arkwright Engineering Scholarships are awarded to high-calibre 16 year olds following a rigorous selection process. Each scholarship provides support for the subsequent two years of A levels, Scottish Advanced Highers or equivalent qualifications, which can include work experience, help with a project, and a mentor for study and career planning.
