Science

Highgate’s Science Department covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics – all are taught as part of a general science course in Year 7 form groups. From Year 8, pupils take separate subject lessons and will follow all three courses as part of the core curriculum until GCSE in Year 11, with options to continue the subjects at A Level.

Our department has well-resourced and modern laboratories, and we value a practical approach to the teaching of science, highlighting the importance of actively engaging with the subject. We co-ordinate activities such as STEM Week, pupils take part in national and international science competitions and attend the co-curricular Science Society and Medical Society. Our popular ‘Girls in Physics’ lecture series attracts women from the sector, with the aim of inspiring more girls to pursue the subject  – find out more from Dr Repetto in the video on the left.

Within our Sixth Form, A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics are popular subject choices and many students go on to study natural sciences, medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine at university.
